EXPLORE MEMPHIS

Explore Memphis continues in July with more than 500 programs at our 18 branch locations. We have arts and crafts, cooking classes, STEM programs, and more. There is no shortage of fun at MPL this summer. In addition, if you enter our Summer Reading Program, you can win weekly prizes. If you read up to 600 minutes, you may even win the Grand Prize.

Join us on July 15 for the Explore Memphest Festival at the Cossitt Library. Enjoy free food from The Check-In, and live music. Free Memphis Grizzlies swag will be given away free. There will also be a FREE backpack giveaway.

Need to stay fueled in the summer heat? We are providing free meals for children at the majority of our branches. Meals will be served at the majority of our locations through August 4. Hours and offerings vary by site. Check with your local branch for more information. 

SENIOR HEALTH FAIR

Mark your calendar! The Senior Health Fair is Friday, June 21, at Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library. It aims to inform, educate, and connect local seniors to 60+ community vendors with a myriad of healthcare resources, wellness information, and free health screenings. It's a one-stop shop covering and satisfying Seniors' health and wellness needs.

Are you looking for a book club to join this summer? We have more than a dozen book clubs for you to pick from. We have book clubs for men, clubs for movie lovers, clubs that meet for coffee, and free-form book clubs. If you want to read with friends, we have you covered.

If your little one needs help with reading, we have Reading Buddy programs at five MPL branches. In addition, we have other reading programs, such as Read to the Dog and reading and math tutors, and early literacy programs for toddlers.

This six-week literature class  will pair well-loved works of classic fiction from the American literary canon with newer works from the next generation of classic literature. We will see how specific themes in our stories and struggles from the past continue in the dynamic discourse of authors today.

Want to hang out with friends while working on your required reading? Need help understanding part of the book? Come to our dedicated study hour to discuss your summer reading books. Chill music and snacks provided. This group meets through the month of July.

 

SUMMER SEED LIBRARY PROGRAMS

Join us every week in July to learn from local experts and volunteers. From recycling to learning about invasive species and native plants to reducing food waste and feeding hungry people and how to protect our aquifer. Our speakers will be cover a range of topics near and dear to the health of our local ecosystems!

If you have arthritis, we have a Tai Chi class for you. The is an 8-week program is designed for people with arthritis to reduce pain and stiffness and help maintain or improve mobility, muscle strength, memory, and balance.

LENA classes can help you make a difference in your baby's life through early talk and interaction while reinforcing early literacy. The program is designed help increase conversation with their children.

Whether making friendship bracelets, tie-dye shirts, stained glass windows, tumblers, or facial masks, our Do it yourself events can keep you busy, and you can take home something pretty cool.

NATIONAL TATTOO DAY

Celebrate National Tattoo Day on July 17 at Memphis Public Libraries!  There'll be book-themed tattoos by local artists, temporary tattoos, henna art, and a tattoo history exhibit. Visit Central Library between 12-8 p.m., last tattoos by 7 p.m. Each $100 tattoo supports MPL programming. Indicate interest for book-themed tattoos, and enjoy temporary tattoos and henna with a donation.
