Hey, comics, movies, anime, manga, video games, and pop culture fans! Make sure you attend MPL Comic Con. Check out legendary comic creators Matt Wagner and Gene Ha and more than 50 local vendors selling art, comics, toys, prints, graphic novels, art supplies, and more! We will have free graphic novels for the first 200 attendees, arts and crafts, a Cosplay contest (Register for Cosplay Contest Here!), a trivia contest, a cosplay parade for the little ones, and a Super Smash Bros. Tournament (Register for Super Smash Bros. Tournament Here!).

Join us at the Bartlett branch for Star Wars-themed story time, crafts, games, and more! You can come dressed in costume or your favorite Star Wars t-shirt! It is a Children's event, and registration is required. May the fourth be with you.

Join us every Thursday in May at the Cossitt Library. You will learn everything from photography basics to long exposure. Photographers will hit the streets together at the Grind City Meetup to capture pictures of the Bluff City.

Join us as we celebrate the power of creativity to bridge cultures and forge connections. On display are the winning artworks from Memphis and Shelby County K-12 students. Let these works of art not only be a reflection, but a celebration of the rich mosaic of voices and experiences that make up the Asian American Pacific Islander community.

The UT Health Hub is bringing a Summer Cooking Class to the Whitehaven Branch! We will cover a healthy summer menu. Participants will leave each class with the groceries they need to complete the meal at home. We will also learn about nutrition and practical cooking skills. This class meets on Mondays from 5/15 to 6/17.

ORANGE MOUND LIBRARY OPENS

After sitting empty for decades, the old Melrose High School has a new lease on life! The Orange Mound Library opened to the public on April 26. This new Memphis Public Library Branch has a Geneology Center, meeting rooms, digital media space, study rooms, and a computer area. The new branch is located at 843 Dallas Street. It is open Monday- Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Stop by and check it out.

Join us at the Levi Library for the Biggest Loser Challenge. This 8-week program is geared toward adults seeking maintainable weight loss and healthy goals. Participants will gain a new outlook on exercise, weight loss, and healthy cooking and eating.

For Mental Health Awareness Month, I Read That Movie at the Library is reading A Beautiful Mind, by John Nash. Our May 25 meeting will feature a screening of the 2001 film adaptation of the book, which was directed by Ron Howard and won the Academy Award for Best Picture. 

Are you ready to get crafty? Join us on Saturday afternoons for children's craft time at Cossitt Library. We will have a guided craft and provide supplies for free artistic play. While the kids are making crafts, adults can grab a bite to eat at Dos Hermanos Kitchen.

Learn about getting stuff for free through your local Buy Nothing group! We'll discuss what Buy Nothing is, how it works, how it can save you money, and how to stay safe while using it. This program is for adults wanting to learn how to save money and declutter for free.

FRAYSER FUN FEST

Join us for the 25th annual Frayser Fun Fest! Enjoy vendors, games, music, and more as we unofficially kick off the start of summer. We are also saying goodbye to the old Frayser Branch as we prepare to move into our new building later this year. Join us for the last Frayser Fun Fest at this building.

Memphis legend Booker T. Leigh will help you with your lawn and show you how to plant a vegetable garden at two events at the Whitehaven Libary in May. With over 30 years of experience in the 901 ecosystem, no question is too small or too big for our guests!

Join us at the Seed Library for a unique experience. The Dixon Gallery and Garden's Shawna White will provide adults with a hands-on art experience. We'll be tying nature and your creativity together. All supplies provided! While you are there, pick up FREE seeds from the Seed Library.

If you want to dance, we can help make it happen. From line dancing to Salsa, we have you covered! Have you ever wanted to learn the urban dance called Chicago Stepping? The Levi Library has classes every Saturday in May. Check the event calendar for a dance class near you.

Do you want to volunteer your time, but need to figure out where? If so, attend the Volunteer Fair for adults. Representatives from various non-profits will recruit potential adult volunteers. Having so many organizations in one spot simultaneously exposes you to many groups.
